MEDIUM AND STYLE
Mid-century retro-futurist illustration, sleek rockets, domed cities, monorails, gouache airbrush rendering with crisp edges and confident shapes. Space and sky areas carry planets, rings, nebulae and ships so they never read as a black field.
SCENE
A retro-futuristic sky station floats above a vast, golden sea of clouds. Brass towers elegantly stretch upwards, welcoming sleek airships that dock gracefully. Looping rails carry rocket trains that whizz past vibrant rooftop gardens thriving with exotic flora. Robots serve ice cream to joyous families who wave from observation decks, each platform bustling with life. The station delights with a meticulously crafted blend of art deco and futurism, while the sky buzzes with activity from various aircraft flying around. Focal point: A grand brass tower near the center with airships docking. Foreground: The edge of the sky station, where families wave from observation decks surrounded by lush rooftop gardens with various colorful plants. Midground: Multiple brass towers extending upwards with sleek airships docking, connected by looping rocket train tracks weaving through the scene. Background: A golden sea of clouds extends into the horizon below an azure sky filled with small aircraft, adding depth to the floating cityscape. Lighting: Bright midday sunlight bathes the scene, casting crisp shadows and creating highlights on the brass towers and airships, enhancing the retro aesthetic. Colour zones: celestial emerald #468E8C for sky and sea of clouds; sunlit coral #FFA07A for rooftop gardens; golden yellow #FFD700 for brass towers; cloud cream #F5DEB3 for cloud sea highlights; flaming red #FF4500 for airships and rocket trains; night sky blue #1E3A5F for small aircraft in sky. Small hidden details spread across different areas: A robot serving soft-serve ice cream; A child waving from an observation deck; A rocket train on a looping track; A garden with exotic flowers; A small airship in the sky.
FORMAT
Portrait format 3:4 (2304×3072). Vertical composition: foreground, midground and background stacked from bottom to top, with interest reaching the top edge.
PUZZLE CALIBRATION
The picture will be cut into about 108 pieces (9 columns by 12 rows). A clear focal point surrounded by many secondary details; medium-sized colour regions, each with its own texture; a recognisable object or pattern fragment in every piece-sized area.
PUZZLE CRAFT (house rules)
Original artwork made to be printed and cut into a premium jigsaw puzzle. Edge-to-edge composition: the scene fills the whole canvas, corners and borders included, with real content in all four corners because players start with the edge pieces. Even distribution of interest: there is something to recognise in every area of the picture, with no large empty or uniform zone (no plain sky, flat water, blank wall or smooth gradient covering more than a small part of the image). Clear colour zoning: five to eight distinct colour families laid out in readable regions, so players can sort pieces into piles by colour. Inside each colour region, varied textures and small details (brick, foliage, fabric, ripples, patterns) so two pieces of the same colour still look different. Full tonal range with strong local contrast between neighbouring shapes; deep shadows keep detail and highlights never blow out. Everything in sharp focus from the foreground to the horizon: no depth-of-field blur, no bokeh, no motion blur, no haze or fog veils. Rich, saturated but print-safe colour, balanced warm and cool tones, even lighting that keeps every area legible. Layered depth: a detailed foreground, a lively midground and a structured background stacked through the frame. Small hidden stories and discoverable details spread across the canvas, rewarding a close look.
